About Michael Safley

A resident of Hillsboro, Oregon, Michael Safley has owned and operated Portland’s MJS Real Properties for 33 years. His accomplishments with this real estate investment and development firm include the successful completion of an award-winning 275-unit, low-income rehabilitation project in northeast Portland. In 1996, Michael Safley took on additional responsibilities as the founder of Quechua Benefit, a charity that supports struggling alpaca breeders in Peru. Over the years, he has volunteered his time to raise more than $10 million for impoverished Quechua women and children while working through Quechua Benefit to deliver free healthcare and spearhead educational efforts.

Mr. Safley studied political science at the University of Oregon in Eugene and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the United States Navy. He has traveled around the world both for pleasure and to lecture on the subject of alpaca breeding. Closer to his Hillsboro home, he enjoys gardening, reading, writing, and watching movies.
